In another instance of racism against a sportsperson, a baseball fan hurled racist slur at Miami Marlins black outfielder Lewis Brinson on Sunday at Coors Fields in Denver. The incident has been condemned by the Colorado Rockies and the players union.
The fan allegedly called Brinson a racial word when the match was at its ninth inning. The player was at bat when home plate microphones appeared to pick up a male voice screaming a racial term. The voice was heard at least twice.

The Coors Fields is investigating the matter and has condemned the act of racism.
The Colorado Rockies said in a Twitter statement that they were “disgusted at the racial slur” and that although the person who said it had not been identified, they were still investigating the incident.
Brinson, a 27-year-old native of Coral Springs, Florida, however, did not appear to react to the racial slurs. According to a team spokesman, Brinson and his teammates did not hear the slur.
“It is a painful reality that progress continues to be elusive in a world where ignorance and bigotry remain all too commonplace,” MLB Players Association President Tony Clark said in a statement.
However, this is not the first time a black sportsperson was subjected to such racial humiliation by the fans. Recently, British car racer Lewis Hamilton, faced online racial abuse during and after his controversial win in the British Grand Prix.
The reports of racism came after the seven-time world champion was involved in a collision incident that saw championship leader Max Verstappen plough his Red Bull into a wall and out of the race. Following this, fans abused and hurled racist comments at him on social media.
Before that, English footballers Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford, were made the target of an online racial attack after they missed penalties in the Euro 2020 final.
After the incident, Bukayo Saka called out social media giants like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for not taking stringent steps to stamp out racial abuse.
Saka took to his Twitter to ask social media platforms to take responsibility for the racist speech propagated on their systems.
