Gabbert played college football at the University of Missouri, where he showcased his talents as a quarterback. During his college career, he displayed a strong arm, good mobility, and the ability to make accurate throws under pressure. In his junior year in 2010, he passed for over 3,000 yards and earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors.
In the 2011 NFL Draft, Gabbert declared early and was selected as the 10th overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He made his NFL debut during his rookie season and showed promise with his arm strength and athleticism. However, his time in Jacksonville was marred by inconsistency, and he struggled to establish himself as a franchise quarterback.
After three seasons with the Jaguars, Gabbert was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2014. During his tenure with the 49ers, he faced various challenges and played both as a starter and backup quarterback. Despite some moments of success, including a few notable wins, he couldn’t solidify his role as the team’s long-term starter.
Subsequently, Gabbert had short stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, primarily serving as a backup quarterback. His journey through these teams allowed him to gain experience and adapt to different offensive systems.
Gabbert’s career statistics reflect his role as a reliable backup quarterback with occasional starting opportunities. Throughout his NFL career, he has thrown for over 9,000 yards and has over 50 touchdown passes.
