After getting shot in August, Brian Robinson Jr was unsure if he will make his NFL debut this year. About six weeks later, the 23-year-old Washington Commanders running back scored his first career touchdown.

Brian Robinson Jr posted 22 rushing yards on nine rushes in his debut against the Tennessee Titans. His TD on Thursday got Washington their second win of the 2022 season.

Robinson, the 98th overall in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft, was shot in an attempted robbery in August. The bullet that struck his right knee missed all the bones and ligaments. He underwent surgery before being released from the hospital a day later and returned to the team’s practice facility the same week.

He was medically cleared to play and made extensive progress since being released from the hospital, which was enough for the Commanders to get him in the lineup.

“My focus was on being on the field and helping my team win,” Robinson said last week. “I just kept my head high. I didn’t complain. I didn’t try and go back in the past and just did everything I had to do to take steps forward. That’s what helped me make the progress that I’ve made.”
