One of the legends of the game and former India international Sachin Tendulkar has showered Rafael Nadal with praises after the Spaniard beat Taylor Fritz to qualify for the semi-final of Wimbledon 2022.

Nadal displayed a memorable performance against his American opponent, Taylor Fritz, defeating him 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-4) on Wednesday at the Centre Court of the All England Club to reach the semis.

The Spaniard had a tough time against Fritz as the 24-year-old American stood equal after the fourth set. However, Nadal fought back in the final round, winning at the very last moment to break the tie.

Tendulkar, who is known to be an avid tennis fan, took to Twitter to congratulate Nadal. “A super competitor who never ever gives up despite all adversities. Amazing game of tennis last evening @RafaelNadal,” he wrote.

“The way you compete each time you’re on the court is just brilliant to watch,” the 49-year-old added.

The Indian legend is also fond of Nadal’s arch rival, Roger Federer, and has even gone on to admit that he is a fan of the Swiss player. Sachin has also revealed in the past that he is a regular to the All England Club when Wimbledon is organised.

Second seeded Nadal displayed unbreakable character as he went strength to strength to seal the victory. He was set to face Australian ace Nick Kyrgios in the semis, however, reports claim that the Spanish star might not be competing in the round owing to an injury.

“I am used to holding pain and playing with problems,” Nadal was quoted as saying to reporters after the match.  “Knowing that, when I feel something like I felt, something is not going the proper way in my abdomen,” he added.

However, it must be noted that Nadal had previously played in the 2009 US Open with a similar injury, although less serious than the one now.
