Brock Purdy, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, was selected in the 2022 NFL Draft as the 262nd overall pick, which made him the Mr. Irrelevant of the current season. However, his show against the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers has forced all to reconsider that nickname.

The 22-year-old came on as the first-choice quarterback for the 49er after Jimmy Garoppolo was carted off the field with an injury in week 13 match-up against the Miami Dolphins. After starting today against the Buccaneers, he managed to score his first career rushing touchdown as the 49ers built further on a huge lead.

Fans were so impressed with the Burdy-show that they started chanting his name from the stands. On social media, fans were equally impressed with his performance and deluge of reactions came in.

It was indeed a sight to behold as the 22-year-old stole the show while a 45-year-old legend struggled to score even a single point for the Bucs. Is it the age that made all the difference on Sunday?

Or is it really Brady’s longevity as a professional footballer that made him witness the best of Joe Montana, Steve Young and Brock Purdy. Professionals have bad days at work, but that does not negate their talent and achievements in the game, and perhaps for Brady it was just a bad day.

It is hard to not notice that Brady has been producing below-par performances since his return from a brief period of temporary retirement from the NFL last season. Is his NFL career going straight downhill hereafter?

A fan shared a meme that perfectly summed up how Purdy’s performance looked when the GOAT was having a bad day. Is his game against the Buccaneers being overshadowed because of the no-show from Brady? There’s certainly some truth to it.

At one point in Q4, the Buccaneers were 35-7 down against the San Francisco 49ers, it is unlikely that they will be able to make a comeback from here. However, can the legend Tom Brady make a comeback from such a low point in his career? Only time will tell.
