Star all-rounder
Rashid Khan is worried about the situation in Afghanistan and is unable to get
his family out of the country, former England captain Kevin Pietersen has said.
“There’s a lot of things that are happening at home. We had a long chat here on
the boundary talking about it and he’s worried. He can’t get his family out of
Afghanistan and there’s a lot of things happening for him,” Pietersen said on
Sky Sports.

Afghanistan
is now under the control of the Taliban with the militants capturing the capital
city of Kabul as President Ashraf Ghani flew out of the country to an undisclosed
location
on Sunday. Thousands of people are thronging to Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International
Airport in a desperate attempt to leave the war-torn country.

Flight
operations from around the world to Kabul have been disrupted due to the situation,
with 6,000 American troops securing the airport to ensure people, including
their embassy staff, officials and citizens, can be evacuated.

Rashid is currently playing for the Trent
Rockets in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, a new limited overs league in
the United Kingdom.

“For him to
turn up and put on a performance like this under the pressure that he is
currently under… for him to be able to forget that stuff and navigate his
story and continue the momentum that he has – I think that’s probably one of
the most heart-warming stories of this Hundred so far,” Pietersen said.

Rashid took
three wickets and conceded just 16 runs from 20 deliveries as the Rockets restricted
the Manchester Originals to 135/8, before David Malan smashed 52 to help chase down
the total with seven wickets to spare.

Meanwhile,
the Afghanistan national team is will participate in the upcoming T20
World Cup in Dubai in October. The situation in the country cast doubts over their
future, but the team’s media manager told ANI that confirmed the team will
participate in the tournament.
