PSG will take on Juventus tonight in their opening match of the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League campaign. Despite Qatar Sports Investments pumping huge amounts of money into the PSG machinery, the closest the side had come to tasting European glory was in the 2020 UCL final when they were defeated by Bayern Munich with a 1-0 scoreline.

PSG are perched atop the Ligue 1 table but have the same points as Marseille, who are second due to goal difference. They have won five out of the six league matches they have played till date.

Juventus, on the other hand, have won the UCL twice while losing the final on seven different occasions. They last played in the European top-flight final in 2017, in which Real Madrid thrashed them with a 4-1 scoreline and secured their third UCL trophy in a row.

Juventus have also not been defeated in the Serie A yet, but are seventh on the league table with two wins and three draws.

While PSG have the chance to field their best squad in the match, Juventus are struggling with several injuries. The main exclusions from their lineup will be Paul Pogba and Adrien Rabiot. Danilo can move to the right back, with Leonardo Bonucci taking his place as the centre back to provide the team his much-needed experience.

Neymar, Sergio Ramos, Nuno Mendes, and Renato Sanchez were all available for PSG’s match against Nantes and Christophe Galtier will likely add them to the squad today. While Italian stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been regularly playing as PSG’s first-choice goalkeeper, Galtier might field Navas tonight considering his glittering Champions League record with Real Madrid.

Probable lineups

PSG: Navas; Ramos, Marquinhos, Kimpembe; Hakimi, Sanches, Verratti, Bernat; Messi, Mbappe, Neymar

Juventus: Perin; Danilo, Bonucci, Bremer, Sandro; Locatelli, Paredes, McKennie; Cuadrado, Vlahovic, Kostic

Besides the PSG-Juventus encounter, other important UCL matches scheduled for tonight include Real Madrid vs Celtic, RB Salzburg vs AC Milan, and Manchester City vs Sevilla.
