The Phoenix Suns will reportedly waive Chris Paul, as per B/R and TNT’s Chris Haynes. Fans want the free agent to join Los Angeles Lakers.

The 38-year-old point guard averaged a career-low 13.9 points, 8.9 assists, and 4.3 rebounds last season with the Suns. The team reached the semifinals in 2023 but lost against the Denver Nuggets. Head coach Monty Williams was fired and replaced by former Los Angeles Lakers coach Frank Vogel.

Chris Paul had two years left on his contract – a four-year $120 million deal. If he is waived before June 28, the deadline, only $15.8 million will be guaranteed.

Paul is a 12-time All-Star and former Rookie of the Year. He is one of the biggest free agents this summer. The 38-year-old, however, has never won an NBA title. He went to the finals with the Phoenix Suns in his first season when they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Now fans want Paul to join D’Angelo Russell and LeBron James at the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Chris Paul and D’Angelo Russell would be a weirdly appealing package deal for the Lakers if they could swing both of them. DLo eats the regular-season innings and then Paul becomes the playoff point guard,” a Twitter user said.

“David Stern going to be brought back like Emperor Palpatine on Exegol if Chris Paul signs with the Lakers,” another one added.

“Logistically, not impossible for the Lakers to bring back DLo and sign Chris Paul (assuming he’s waived). Would likely mean saying goodbye to Dennis Schroder, but a Reaves-DLo-CP3 guard rotation could be possible….though who comes off the bench may be a difficult conversation,” a third Twitter user said.
