Deshaun Watson, the quarterback for Cleveland Browns, was booed at the Paul Brown Stadium as his side took on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Since his return to the NFL last week, Watson has not been able to perform at the expected level and even though Cleaveland Browns won, the fans were not happy with Watson.

The 27-year-old was suspended from the NFL after allegations of sexual assault surfaced against him. It was a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, as defined in the official rulebook.

He started the match against the Bengals on Sunday and the combination of his performance and the allegation against him prompted the fans to boo the quarterback. 

More than two dozen women accused Watson of sexual assault. According to their counsel, eight of those women were scheduled to attend the Houston vs. Cleveland game last week. However, whether or not they actually attended the game was never made clear either by the attorney or any other source at the stadium.

Deshaun Watson was selected by the Texans in the 2017 draught, but after four seasons he wanted a trade and was eventually sold to Cleveland in March. Following the accusations, he was benched for 11 games without pay.

Watson denied that the booing had anything to do with the sexual assault allegations against him saying instead that it was his performance that they were booing at. 

“They’re supposed to boo,” he said. “I’m a Cleveland Brown now, and we’re on the road, so they’re supposed to boo.”
