Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski backed quarterback Baker Mayfield saying that there was no reason the team would not play the 26-year-old. His statement came after the Browns lost 10-16 against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Mayfield and company have scored a grand total of 27 points over the past three games. Several questions have been raised around the performance of Cleveland Browns’ offence. When pressed on whether there could be a QB change during the club’s bye week, the coach said,” No. Let me ask you a question, Why would we do that? We’re not doing that.”

“Very, very disappointed and frustrated. We’ve got to get to this bye week, fix some things, get healthy, unplug for a minute and then we’ve got Baltimore again for a stretch run,” Stefanski had said after the Sunday Night .

In a scheduling quirk, the Browns get the upcoming weekend off before a rematch with the Ravens at home on Dec. 12. The Browns will have to do better than rush for 40 yards on 17 tries. They’ll have to get more production out of quarterback Baker Mayfield and cut down on penalties such as roughing the passer and having 12 men on the field — twice.

Their quarterback, Mayfield, has played five straight games  dealing with shoulder, foot and knee injuries. He has ompleted 50.6% of his passes for 165.3 yards per game with a 3-3 TD-INT ratio and a 65.1 passer rating.

Against Ravens, the 26-year-old tossed for 247 yards and a TD while completing just 48.6% of his passes.

Baltimore went up 3-0 after the Browns had an extra player on the field with the Ravens in punt formation. Things like that just shouldn’t happen this late in the season, but that’s how Sunday night went for the Browns.

“That’s coaching. That’s on me,” Stefanski said.

Last December, the Browns rang up 42 points in a loss to Baltimore. This time, they intercepted Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson four times and still finished with a measly 10 points.

“Very frustrating,” Mayfield said. “To me, that’s kind of the story of our season so far, not being able to play complementary football.”
