The Commonwealth Games are finally here and Indian sporting enthusiasts are already excited by the prospect. While the first day has brought out many of the Indian top performers, a number of other medal hopefuls will take centre stage on Day 2. 

Let’s take a look at a preview for Day 2 and the timing of these events in India.

Day 2 schedule

Aquatics (swimming) (Events will begin from 3:06 pm IST)

Kushagra Rawat will be in action when he takes part in men’s 200m freestyle heats. The event will begin at 3:06 pm IST. The 200m freestyle final is also scheduled for later in the day.

Srihari Natraj, who will participate in the 100m backstroke heats on July 29, will be in contention to make it to the men’s 100m backstroke final, if he makes the cut on day 1.

Athletics (marathon) (Events will begin from 11:30 pm IST)

Nirender Rawat will be in contention to participate in the marathon final on the second day. The events begin from 11:30 pm IST. These events will be organised in Smithfield.

Badminton (Events will begin from 1:30 pm IST)

After beginning their campaign on July 29, the Indian badminton mixed team will participate in the second round of qualifiers on Saturday when they face Sri Lanka. The match will begin at 1:30 pm IST.

They will also take on Australia in the third round of the qualifiers from 11:30 pm IST.

Boxing  (Events will begin from 5 pm IST)

While Shiva Thapa has already started his campaign, Mohammed Hussam Uddin will face South African Amzolele Dyeyi at 5 pm IST in the round of 32 of the Featherweight (54-57 kg) category.

Cycling (Events will begin from 2:30 pm IST) 

The Indian women’s team of Triyasha Paul, Meenakshi, Shushikala Agashe and Mayuri Dhanraj Lute will participate in the sprint Qualification, which will also lead to the 1/8th finals, quarterfinals, semifinals and medal round (finals) on the same day. 

The women cyclists will also be participating in 3000m individual pursuit qualifications. The medal round will also be held on the day.

Meanwhile, the men’s team of Vishavjeet, Naman, Venkappa, Anantha Narayanan and Dinesh will take part in the 4000m individual pursuit qualification event. The medal round is also on the same day.

The men’s Keirin rounds are scheduled for Saturday, with the repechage later in the day. The medal round will also be held on the same day.

Gymnastics (Events begin at 1:30 pm IST)

Pranati Nayak, Ruthuja Nataraj, Protistha Samanta and Bavleen Kaur will be in action in gymnastics in Women’s Team Final & Individual Qualification in rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Women’s hockey (begins at 6:30 pm IST)

The Indian women’s hockey team will face Wales in their second group stage match against Wales. The game will begin at 6:30 pm IST.

Squash (Events begin from 5 pm IST)

Sunayna Sara Kuruvilla will face Aifa Azaman of Malaysia from 5:45 pm IST. Joshna Chinnapa will play in the round of 32 from 5:45 pm IST. Her opponent is yet to be declared. 

Meanwhile, Ramit Tandon will play in the men’s preliminary round of 32 from 5 pm IST. Saurav Ghoshal will also play in the round of 32 from 6:15 pm IST. His opponent is to be declared.

Table Tennis and Para Table Tennis (Events begin from 2 pm IST)

The Indian women’s team will face Guyana in Group 2 from 2 pm IST while the men’s team will play against Northern Ireland from 4:30 pm IST in the third round of qualifications.

Weightlifting (Events begin at 1:30 pm IST)

Sanket Mahadev and Gururaja will be in contention in the men’s 55kg and 61kg events respectively. The events will begin at 1:30 pm and 4:15 pm IST respectively. The medal events are also scheduled on the same day.

Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics medallist and CWG veteran Mirabai Chanu will be competing in the women’s 49 kg event, which begins at 8 pm IST. Bindyarani Devi will also be in action in the 55kg event, which begins at 12:30 am IST. Finals of both events are scheduled on the same day.
