The 23-year-old Judo sensation from India, Tulika Maan bagged a silver medal in the Women’s 78 kg category of judo at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. She lost in the gold medal match to Scotland’s Sarah Adlington and had to settle for second place. She wore a blue Judogi in the finals while her opponent donned a white Judogi.

As the match progressed, Maan was ahead by a waza-ari, despite her two Shidos. But, Arlington surprised everyone with her brilliant skills and pulled off an ippon to claim the gold medal.

Tulika Maan had defeated her opponents by the ippon on her way to the finals. She had defeated her semi-final and quarter-final opponents, Sydnee Andrews of New Zealand and Tracy Durhone of Mauritius, with the same move.

After the medal ceremony, the judoka expressed disappointment in her performance. She also thanked Indian PM Narendra Modi for starting the Khelo India Scheme. She dedicated this medal to her mother, Amrita Singh and coach Yashpal Solanki.

“I am not happy with my performance but nothing can be done now. I want to thank PM Narendra Modi for his help as he started Khelo India scheme. I dedicate this medal to my mother and coach,” she said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the ace Judo player, after learning of her silver-medal victory.

After her victory, three medals have been won by Indian players in Judo in a span of three days. On Monday, Shushila Devi Likmabam won the silver medal in the Women’s 48 kg Judo event. She had also claimed the same medal in a similar category in the previous edition of the Commonwealth Games (2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games). That same day, Vijay Kumar Yadav had to settle for a bronze medal in the men’s 60 kg weight category.
