Irish professional mixed martial artist Conor McGregor said that he avoided serious injury on Friday, January 27, after his bicycle was hit by a vehicle.
The former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) two-division champion took to his Instagram to share footage of the aftermath of what he claimed to be a ‘high-speed collision between his bicycle and a vehicle’. He said that he was run down by a careless driver while he was on his morning ride. The incident not only destroyed McGregor’s bicycle but also left him mangled on one side of his body.
“Mate that’s nasty. I could have been dead there mate, look!” McGregor said in the post-crash video he uploaded, adding, “Jesus Christ, I’m lucky to get away there with my life. I need a lift home, that bike’s fooked. I’m still here thank god, that’s all that matters.”

Shaken in a panic, McGregor posted a video of his damaged bicycle in the middle of the road. He said he was hit from behind after the driver couldn’t see him, due to the glare of the sun coming around a corner. He was, however, able to protect himself as he hit the ground.
“Got a bang of a car just now from behind,” McGregor wrote on his social media. “A sun trap, the driver couldn’t see me. Full speed straight through me. Thank you God, it wasn’t my time. Thank you wrestling and judo also. Having an awareness on the landing saved my life.”

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Nick, was also shaken by the encounter. In the video, he said that he “couldn’t see a thing” and was “so sorry” to McGregor. McGregor brushed off the situation lightly, seemingly as though he has no intention of pressing any charges against the driver.
McGregor simply asked Nick to put his damaged bicycle in the back of his trunk and give him a ride home, to which the latter obliged.
