Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract has been terminated by Manchester United with immediate effect. The Portuguese striker had come out with all guns blazing against the Red Devils in a tell-all interview with British TV host Piers Morgan. Ronaldo said in his interview that United were strategically benching him in order to force his exit from the club.

In the much-publicised interview, Morgan had asked Ronaldo whether he would be open to the idea of teaming up with his longtime rival Lionel Messi at PSG if the offer comes. CR7 was quick with his response, saying that nothing is impossible in football and he would not hesitate to take up the offer if approached.

Although Ronaldo and Messi teaming up will be a dream come true for football fans across the world, wage issues will be a big concern for the Parisians if the idea materialises. PSG have a massive wage bill, with Kylian Mbappe drawing €90.9m million per year, Messi taking home €63.6 million per year, and Neymar receiving €56.4 million per year.

Ronaldo was the Premier League’s highest-paid player with earnings of €23.1 million per year, which will be difficult for PSG to match. The Portuguese superstar will need to take a significant pay cut in his salary if there is any hope of him joining PSG. A question also remains about whether he will agree to play at a salary that is almost one-third of his long-time rival.

The 37-year-old showered praises on Lionel Messi when asked about the Argentine in the interview. Ronaldo said he considers Messi to be a “magical” and “top” player who “does everything for football”. He went on to say that Messi has always spoken well of him in public, and that he shares a warm relationship with the latter after sharing the world stage for 16 years together.
