Ronaldo’s destination after his second stint at Manchester United came to a bitter end was one of the hotly debated topics in the world of football. The 37-year-old striker had lashed out against the Red Devils in an interview with British TV host Piers Morgan, which sealed his exit from the club.
He had taken an exception to United manager Erik ten Hag constantly benching him in their matches. However, Portugal manager Fernando Santos chose to do the same during the World Cup, prompting criticism from Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodriguez. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was seen crying in the tunnel after the match.
Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes had been desperately looking for a way of out United after the latter failed to qualify for the 2022-23 Champions League. Regarding Ronaldo’s situation at United, Axel Hellman, the CEO of Eintracht Frankfurt, had told DAZN, “Ronaldo was even offered to us,” further adding, “I have the feeling he was offered to every Champions League club.”
