Dean Holland, an Australian jockey died at the age of 34 as a result of a fall during a race in regional Victoria state Monday.
In the opening race at Donald Racecourse, Holland was one of two jockeys thrown from their horses, the state’s horse racing authority said. He was treated by the paramedics. Although he was slated to be airlifted to Melbourne, Holland ultimately succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

Holland was nearing the finish when his horse, named Headingley, veered into the inside rail, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
