Hopkins was let go by the Arizona Cardinals on May 26 after three seasons with the organization. This was essentially a cost-cutting measure for a team that is in the process of restructuring. However, many believe that it may end up being one of the weakest ones by 2023.
After acquiring Hopkins in a high-profile trade with Houston and eventually signing him to a $54.5 million contract deal through 2024, Arizona released him three seasons later. Hopkins, who will turn 31 in a few months, would have added close to $31 million to the cap this year.
