The Browns led the match 6-3 at the end of the first half. Both teams averaged less than 5 yards per play in the first half and neither team really got off to a great offensive start.
All of the scoring was done through field goals. With Tyler Huntley completing only 9 of 15 passes for 67 yards, Baltimore was especially ineffective in the passing game.
Early in the game, the Ravens did have a chance to score, but they were stopped on fourth-and-1 from the Cleveland 7-yard line. The Browns took the lead right away after their subsequent drive resulted in their first field goal.
Meanwhile, Nick Chubb’s 18-yard scamper accounted for nearly half of Cleveland’s 43 total rushing yards on one play (8 carries, 31 yards).
Late in the first half, Cleveland did enter the end zone, but a ball from Deshaun Watson (13-for-18, 105 yards) intended for David Njoku (3 receptions, 28 yards) at the back of the end zone was incomplete when Njoku’s foot collided with safety Chuck Clark’s of the Ravens.
A late failed field goal from Justin Tucker gave the Browns a 6-3 lead at the half. However, that sequence also led to Cleveland’s second field goal.
