The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams held a moment of silence to honor former running back Ronnie Hillman. The two sides locked horns at the SoFi Stadium on Christmas day.

Ronnie Hillman was part of the Denver Broncos team that won Super Bowl 50. He died last week at the age of 31.

In an Instagram post, his family wrote that Hillman was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer called renal medullary carcinoma in August this ear and was under hospice care.

He died surrounded by family and close friends.

“We as the family, appreciate the prayers and kind words that have already been expressed. We ask that you would give us time to process our feelings as we prepare to lay our precious RJ to rest,” his family wrote. 

Expressing their condolences on social media, Broncos wrote, “A bright soul gone far too soon.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Hillman family during this difficult time.”

Hillman was picked by the Denver Broncos in the third round of the 2012 draft. He went on to run for 1,976 yards and 12 touchdowns over his 56-game career.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Ronnie’s family. Although I only got to coach him one season, I’ll remember him as a great teammate and hard worker,” San Diego State coach Brady Hoke said in a statement.

“Ronnie always came to practice with a smile on this face and his passion for the game was contagious. He’ll always be an Aztec for life.”

Athletic director John David Wicker wrote, “Ronnie helped resurrect San Diego State football in his two seasons in 2010 and 2011 and has recently been around the program offering wisdom and insight.”
