The Brazilian leftback Marcelo has signed a new contract with Greek club Olympiacos after ending his legendary career with Real Madrid after the 2021-22 season. He spent 15 years with Los Blancos in which he won five Champions League titles and six La Ligas. Marcelo has had an extensive stint with his national team as well, taking part in the Olympic Games, Confederations Cup, and two World Cups.

Marcelo has now signed a one-year contract with Olympiacos. There is an option to increase the same for one more year if the player wants to. Olympiacos have expressed their excitement at the arrival of Marcelo to their club, calling him “A true football legend”.  Have a look at their announcement picture right here:

Marcelo began his footballing career at the Brazilian outfit Fluminense. He was bought by Real Madrid in 2007 as a potential successor to another Brazilian, Roberto Carlos. His camaraderie with Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo, both on and off the pitch, helped paved the success Los Blancos witnessed in the 2010s.

Olympiacos are Greece’s most popular football club and are also the current champion of Greek League. It remains to be seen whether the well-decorated Brazilian defender manages to add more silverware to the Olympiacos trophy room. 

The deadline day of the 2022 summer transfer window has saw a number of notable signings. Chelsea and Liverpool have made notable signings like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Arthur, respectively. Aubameyang has been sold by Barcelona who already have a number of options upfront, especially after Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele returned from injuries.
