Diamantaire promises money, car if Indian women win Olympic hockey medal

Indian women's hockey team scripted history by qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics semifinals for the first time with a stunning 1-0 victory over Australia, who had been looking for their first medal since securing a podium finish in Sydney in 2000. Many, including politicians, celebrities, and top businessmen have taken to social media to celebrate the win. Diamond merchant Savji Dholakiya, often referred to as 'the king' in his fraternity for his generous gifts to his employees, has announced a reward for the team, if they win a gold at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Assuring that crores of Indians are right behind the Indian women’s hockey team, Savji Dholakiya tweeted that each player will be given 11 lakh or a car if they beat the rival team in the finals.

“The group has also decided to award others (who have a house) with a brand-new car worth Rs 5 lakhs if the team brings home a medal. Our girls are scripting history with every move at Tokyo 2020. We’re into the semi-finals of the Olympics for the 1st time beating Australia,” he said in a tweet thread, adding that that move is just a “humble effort to boost the morale of our players.”
Savji Dholakia, a Surat-based diamond merchant and the owner of Hare Krishna Exporters, is known for his generous gifts. Last year on the occasion of Diwali, he had announced that he would give cars to 600 employees of his company as a Diwali gift. The Surat-based businessman had also rewarded some of his employees with flats and fixed deposits.
The Indian women's hockey team will take on Argentina in the semi-final on Wednesday.
