Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo’ move to Premier League giants Manchester United created a huge frenzy on social media, sparking several theories and rumours. One such report said that the world’s longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II ordered 80 Ronaldo jerseys for the Royal Court. Let’s check how much of this claim was true.

As per a Mexico-based sports company Sports Innovation Society’s tweet on September 1, the Queen had personally requested for CR7’s jerseys. “The Cristiano effect,” it had said in the tweet.

As soon as this was posted, the tweet went viral and several media organisations reported about the Queen’s unusual request.

However, in a tweet the very next day, Sports Innovation society clarified that they cannot confirm the claim.

“We could not confirm the veracity of the note from the Queen and CR7 so we decided to delete the tweet. Apologies,” their public apology read.

The original tweet about the demand was then deleted.

No statement, official or otherwise, has been made by any person of authority including Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Palace.  Hence Opoyi finds that the claim cannot be verified.
