Watt revealed on Twitter that he had experienced atrial fibrillation, an irregular and rapid heart rhythm that can cause blood clots in the heart and increase the risk of stroke and heart failure.

The future Hall of Famer will don personalised cleats in his final game on Sunday as a tribute to his football career. Along with shirts from his tenure with the Texans and Cardinals, the cleats have numbers from his high school and college careers at Wisconsin. Along with images and the names of his family members, Watt also put his favourite motto, “Dream Big, Work Hard.”

The Arizona Cardinals’ star declared last month that this will be his final season after 12 years in the NFL and three times as defensive player of the year.

Over the course of his career, Watt has 112.5 sacks and 581 combined tackles. Watt will be remembered as one of the best pass rushers of his era, and he will leave the game still playing at a high level, which was important to him in making his retirement decision.
