Meanwhile, after being put to bat first, Rishabh Pant and co dominated the powerplay. They scored 57 runs in six overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad brought his maiden T20I half-century in 30 balls. The opener went on to score 57 runs in 35 balls with the help of seven boundaries and two maximums. He tried flicking spinner Keshav Maharaj but the ball turned more than expected. Taking an outer half of the bat, the ball flew back at the bowler, who took a diving catch.

The hosts are 2-0 down in the five-match series. The T20I at Vizag is a must-win for them. South Africa’s Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bowl. Both the teams went in unchanged.

“We would have bowled as well. But as an Indian team we are not looking at the toss too much, just looking to play good cricket. Same team. We spoke about getting better in execution. Planning and tactics are all fine, but and if we can execute better we will be fine. Looks like a better wicket, but feels a bit soft underneath,” Pant, who lost the third consecutive toss, said.

“The colour is different, has a yellowish tinge to it. Feels hard, looks like a good wicket to bat. Same team. Just want to focus on the areas we can improve,” SA skipper Temba Bavuma spoke about the pitch after winning the toss.
