New Orleans Saints players, wearing their new black helmets, jumped up and down. The Minnesota Vikings kicker hit the upright and then the crossbar from 61 yards to let their opponents escape with a 28-25 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London on Sunday. 

“Elation to devastation,” the commentator said as he saw the football bounce twice to miss the uprights. “Are you kidding me? If a stiff breeze had blown right at that,” another one added. 

The first international game this season had all the thrills, especially in the final seconds. A

New Orleans Saints led the game 22-19 when Minnesota receiver Justin Jefferson came off the line to take a quick hand-off from Kirk Cousins. He ran into an empty end zone to take his team 25-22 up. 

With less than two minutes on the clock, Saints kicker Wil Lutz scored a 60-yard field goal and the score was tied at 25-25.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins then went deep to find Justin Jefferson for a huge gain . The Vikings were on the 29 yard line and in range for a winning field goal. However, they lost a yard on a play. Gred Joseph scored a FG from 47 yards and gave his side a lead again. 

Minnesota 25 – 22 New Orleans. 24 seconds to go. 

Andy Dalton made a huge play to give the Saints a shot at a 61 yard FG. Wil Lutz was all set. 

The kicker went for it. However, the ball bounced twice – once on the upright and then the crossbar to fall outside. Minnesota won 28-25.

Talking about the last missed field goal, QB Kirk Cousins said,”I saw it going left, it hit the upright, then hit the crossbar and I thought it bounced backwards – but apparently it bounced forwards. Crazy. It was a tough sledge all day finding ways to move the ball and in the redzone we kept stubbing our toe. But our defense kept getting us the ball back via turnovers and special teams were huge, all kinds of different plays – and we got a win. I’d already flown home once after an overtime loss here and I didn’t want to do it again!”
