England pacer Stuart Broad on Tuesday suffered an injury, just days ahead of the second Test against India. During a warm-up session at Lord’s, Broad tweaked his right calf, reports ESPNCricinfo.

“Stuart Broad tweaked his right calf during England’s warm-up at Lord’s and was unable to train with the rest of the squad,” according to ESPNcricinfo.

Broad will undergo a scan on Wednesday in order to determine the extent of his injury, said the report.

Broad is one of the key fast bowlers of the English bowling attack. The hosts are already missing Jofra Archer due to an injury, and all-rounder Ben Stokes has taken an indefinite break to focus on mental health.

According to a report in ‘The Guardian’, Broad twisted his “right ankle” after he slipped “while undertaking a light warm-up jog.

The second Test, which is being played at Lord’s, will start on August 12.

The opening Test ended in a draw after rain washed out the final day. England were skittled out for 183 in their first innings to concede a 95-run lead to India. Root then scored a second innings hundred as the hosts managed 303 to set India a tricky target.

The match, however, ended in a draw after rain washed out the final day.

The Indian contingent on Monday left for London for the second Test though replacement players, Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw, remained in Nottingham to complete their quarantine.

Shaw and Suryakumar, who linked up with the squad in Nottingham on August 3, will only complete their 10-day quarantine on August 13, which means that they can only train from August 14 and will be available for selection from the third Test, starting August 25 at Leeds.

The nine-day gap between the second and third Test will certainly give the duo ample chance to train and get match ready in case the team management feels the necessity of playing either of the two.
