Jos Buttler, who captained England in the last 2 ODIs against India, said that the defeats would not force them to ring the changes. “We have been a brilliant side for a long period of time now,” Buttler said after India won the ODI series 2-1. Earlier on the tour, England had lost the Test and Twenty20 series too.

Buttler donned the captaincy for the injured Eoin Morgan in the last two ODIs. Buttler and Morgan believe that exposing new players to India’s bedevilling sun-baked pitches will benefit England at the T20 tournament in October and again in 2023 when they defend their 50-over World Cup title in India.

In the third ODI at Pune, Sam Curran scored a 95* after coming out to bat at number 8. Curran led the Endland fight back and took his side close to India’s total. Eventually, England fell short by seven-runs in the nerve-wrecking series decider.

Buttler said that there were shades of MS Dhoni in Curran’s innings. Curran and Dhoni both play for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.

“I’m sure there were shades of the way that he (MS Dhoni) would have liked to take the game down if he was in that situation. He’s a great person for Sam to have a conversation with when he meets up MS (in the IPL),” Buttler said.
