On Tuesday evening, multiple reports surfaced, stating that Mike Williams, the former Syracuse wide receiver, had passed away at the age of 36.
However, new information has emerged, with his family and agent confirming that Williams is not deceased but is currently on life support due to a construction site accident. The Tampa Bay Times interviewed Tierney Lyle, the mother of Williams’ eight-year-old daughter, who shared, “When we entered his room, he was in a deep sleep, but he woke up upon hearing our voices and the voice of his daughter. He glanced around, blinked, and tears welled up in his eyes, yet he remains unable to move.”
The Tampa Bay Times, in their report on Wednesday, confirmed the continued existence of Mike Williams, a Buffalo native and former Syracuse football standout. This information was also substantiated by Michael Schwartz of WKBW in Buffalo, who referred to Williams’ agent.

His outstanding performance and skill on the field resulted in his selection in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010. Williams enjoyed a five-season NFL career, spending four seasons with the Buccaneers and one with his hometown team, the Buffalo Bills. Over this period, he amassed 223 receptions for 3,089 yards and recorded 26 touchdowns.
Two standout seasons in particular were during his rookie year and his third season, both with the Buccaneers. In his debut season, Williams made 65 receptions for 964 yards and notched 11 touchdowns. Two years later, he achieved 63 catches for 996 yards and scored nine times. Following a contract extension, the Buccaneers traded Williams to the Bills before the 2014 season. However, the Bills released him before week 17 of that year. One of Williams’ memorable moments in Buffalo occurred in a game against the Houston Texans, where he made two catches for 84 yards, including a touchdown.
