Referee Anthony Taylor was trolled for showing a yellow card to Tyrell Malacia in Manchester United’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

“Aurier sold that booking and Anthony Taylor, in peak Christmas spirit, gladly bought it,” one fan said on Twitter.

“Malacia carded for winning the ball and being fouled? Anthony Taylor is nothing, if not a consistently awful referee #BBCFootball #MUNNFO,” another one said.

“Anthony Taylor is the worst ref I have seen in this generation, giving a card to malacia just tops it. To think he is one of the best ref in the premiership. Total disgrace!” a user said on Twitter.

“Anthony Taylor with poor decision making against United again this season I see,” said another.

United took an early lead in the match thanks to goals by Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial. Rashford’s goal came from a well-worked Cristian Eriksen corner which was driven home by the 25-year-old in a sly move that seemed straight from training.

Forest scored in the final minutes of the first half, but the goal was disallowed by VAR as one Forest player was found touching the ball from an offside position as it went into the goal. The first half, as a result, ended with United up by two goals.

Anthony Taylor, however, faced a lot of flak from the United fans for his decision-making. Apart from Malacia’s yellow card, he was criticized for giving a foul against Casemiro.

Many also thought that the set piece that led to the disallowed Forest goal should not have been awarded in the first place.
