Felipe Colares, former UFC fighter, tragically died on Monday after he was hit by a bus in Brazil. The accident took place on Monday morning in the Guaratiba neighborhood of Rio.

Colares had just finished a training session when the accident happened. Kleydson Rodrigues, the MMA fighter’s teammate, confirmed the news to Sherdog reporter Christian Stein on Monday.

Cause of Death

Colares was coming back home from training when he was run over by a bus in the Guaratibo neighborhood. He was quickly attended by the first responders and immediately taken to the Richa Faria hospital with multiple injuries. Colares succumbed to his injuries on the way, reported Brazilian media outlet Combate.

Age

Felipe Colares was born on March 31, 1994 in Macapa, Amapa, Brazil. He was 29 years old. He began training judo at the age of seven and picked up Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Taekwondo, and Muay Thai at 15.

Family

Colares is survived by his wife, Jaqueline, and their six-month-old son. No further information is available about his family.

Career

Felipe Colares started his professional MMA career in July 2013. He was 8-0 at the time he got called up to the UFC. In February 2019, he made his UFC debut against Geraldo de Freitas and went 2-4 in the promotion. He defeated Domingo Pilarte and Luke Sanders. He exited in May 2022 after a loss to Chase Hooper. He fought for Dana White’s fight promotion several times.

In February 2023, Colares fought and beat Alioune Nahaye by first-round submission with a rear-naked choke at Ares FC 12. Colares holds an 11-4 record in his career.

Colares made headlines in January after he shared an Instagram video of himself subduing an alleged thief in Brazil. The fighter said he sprung action after he witnesses “an alleged assault to a woman.”
