Electronic Arts, the e-sports giant, has released a trailer of FIFA 23 that features Ted Lasso, the fictional character in the Emmy winning comedy series Ted Lasso (available on Apple TV), and his club, AFC Richmond.

Ted Lasso is the manager of a fictional British soccer club called AFC Richmond in the series. Jason Sudekis, the creator of the show, plays the character of Ted – an American college football coach who gets hired to coach AFC Richmond under comic circumstances.

Electronic Arts said that AFC Richmond will be available in FIFA 23 on the career mode with all the players like Sam Obisanya, Jamie Tartt, and Dani Rojas. It will also be possible to appoint Ted Lasso as the manager during the season.

Reacting to the trailer, Jason Sudekis has said, “Having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas.”

FIFA 23 is slated to be launched in India and worldwide on Monday, 30 September. However, with prebookings made available on the EA website, those who have pre-booked the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 23  will get the game on 27 September.

Although Ted Lasso is purely a work of fiction, the fandom around it suggests that the creators have drawn inspiration from many fictional characters. For instance, the captain of AFC Richmond, Roy Kent, is believed to be based on former Manchester United captain Roy Keane.

Clearly, the Ted Lasso fans, who are also in FIFA, will love to relive the AFC Richmond journey in career mode.
