Uruguay and Korea split points in their tense Group H opening encounter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the Education stadium, Ryan, Qatar. Both sides had their share of chances in a keenly contested match that was even for most of it.

The two sides’ previous World Cup clash was 12 years ago, in the round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. In that match, which Uruguay won with a narrow score line of 2-1, was primarily thanks to the efforts of Luis Suarez, who scored a brace for the Latin Americans. Today, although Suarez starred in the contest, it failed to make an impact on the scorecard.

While both sides had their share of chances throughout the encounter, it is obviously Uruguay who will be more upset as they hit the goalpost twice, one while trying to hit a goal off a corner and another, much later in the game, in the 90th minute when a shot by Federico Valverde came agonisingly close to clinching the match for Uruguay.
