Bill Belichick was visibly upset. His team, the New England Patriots, let Minnesota Vikings score a 97-yard touchdown return early in the third quarter of the Thanksgiving day game at the US Bank Stadium on Thursday. With the score, the hosts leveled the score 23-23.

Kene Nwangwu scored on the return. After Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins hits Adam Thielen a touchdown to take the lead, the drive was extended by the Patriots running into kicker Ryan Wright on a punt.

A 29-yard punt, giving Minnesota a start at their own 37 only made things worse for the New England special teams.

Now, the poor show by special teams would hurt Bill Belichick even more because the legendary coach’s first job in the NFL was as a special teams assistant for the Detroit Lions.

“I don’t think any moment in the last fifty years in the league was more infuriating for him than that return,” a Twitter user said.

“Vikings were the first team to return a kick for a TD on Bill Belichick since 2010,” another one pointed out.

“I’m old enough to remember the days when they would call a Bill Belichick-coached team “disciplined” they have been nothing but undisciplined and played stupid football tonight. They know the refs are calling everything. Don’t give them a choice,” a third one said.

Kirk Cousins threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns in his team’s 33-26 win. Justin Jefferson had 139 yards and one of the touchdown passes from the quarterback.

New England’s Mac Jones passed for a career-high 382 yards and two scores to snap a lagging offense to life for the Patriots (6-5).

Patriots host the Buffalo Bills on December 1 in another Thursday night game while the Vikings will play the New York Jets on December 4 at home.
