Top-ranked Iga Swiatek defended her Roland Garros title with a hard-fought 6-2 5-7 6-4 victory over world No.43 Karolina Muchova in Saturday’s dramatic final on Court Philippe Chatrier.

In a hilarious moment, the champion dropped the top of the trophy during the presentation ceremony.

Fans on social media took joy in the light hearted moment. One fan wrote, “The most “Iga Świątek” moment possible, Love her”. Another person wrote, “During match…so focused. After match…so confused.” While a fan said, “I was waiting for some goofy situation”

Swiatek got out to a strong start, leading 3-0, then held off a break point at 4-1 to maintain control of the match. With unyielding resolve, she quickly won the opening set with another break, completing it in 48 minutes with a strong 6-2 score.

Muchova staged an astonishing comeback after Swiatek took a 3-0 lead in the second set and overcame her early dominance by winning three straight games to give the match an exciting twist. When Swiatek made her first double fault of the match on a break point at 4-4, giving Muchova the opportunity to serve for the second set, the intensity increased.

Despite the fact that Muchova’s serve slipped at that crucial time, allowing Swiatek to tie the game at 5-5, the Czech player was still able to break the tie and convert her third set point to force a third set.

Swiatek, a two-time Roland Garros winner who came into this match with a perfect 3-0 record in major finals, twice rallied from break points in the thrilling third set. An exciting 4-4 score was the final result. Muchova earned a vital break point in the following game that could have given her a 5-4 advantage and enabled her to serve for her first Grand Slam victory.

She didn’t take advantage of that chance, though, and Swiatek saw a chance to shift the balance in her favor. On Muchova’s serve, Swiatek gained a 40-15 advantage and converted her first championship point, prompting the Czech player to double fault.
