The last 33 matches have been a roller coaster for Italy. They have remained unbeaten, won 27 games, scored 86 goals and conceded 10. But all of this leads to the final test, the 90-odd minutes that will matter the most when the Azzurri face Harry Kane’s England in the Euro 2020 final on July 12.

Italy come into the final after beating Spain 4-2 on penalties. They will now be eyeing to win their first Euro title since 1968. Giorgio Chiellini and company have never lost against England at a major tournament. 

Italy’s road to the Euro 2020 final:

For Italy, the journey to the Euro 2020 final started in 2018 when they lost to Sweden and failed to qualify for the World Cup. In the three years, manager Roberto Mancini has developed one of the best defences in the continent, powered by a robust attacking line.

The Azzurri began their Euro 2020 campaign with a 3-0 win against Turkey. In the following game, they managed to secure a narrow 1-0 win against Switzerland. Italy qualified for round two without conceding any goals. Austria pushed Italy to the extra time and Chilleni’s men managed to score a timely goal to finish 2-1 on the winning side.

Italy’s next win came against World No 1 Belgium. The Italians defeated Kevin De Bruyne and company 2-1 to advance to the next stage. In the semi-final, Italy faced Spain. The match, well fought, got to no result after 120 minutes of play. However, the Azzurri defeated Spain in the penalties. 

Italy were thrashed by Spain 4-0 in Euro 2012. They were knocked out in the group stage in the 2014 World Cup, failed to go past the quarter-final in the 2016 Euro and did not qualify for the 2018 World Cup. A win in Euro 2020 would be a pure redemption story for the four-time world champions.
