Here’s a list of the most iconic world cup official songs over the years:

1. Ricky Martin’s La Copa De La Vida – France ’98

There is no competition for this song’s number-one spot. Ricky Martin‘s stirring words and powerful voice held listeners’ attention from the beginning of the song till the very end, allowing everyone to enjoy the joy and fun that the world cup offers. La Copa la Vida not only topped the list of the best songs for the 1998 World Cup, but it also propelled Ricky Martin’s 1999 album to the top of the charts.

2. K’Naan’s Wavin’ Flag – 2010 South Africa

More than just a World Cup anthem, Wavin’ Flag. Everyone can get inspired by this jam! The upbeat chorus of the Somali Canadian swiftly soared to become the most-played song of the World Cup in South Africa after winning over the hearts of the crowd throughout the competition.

3. Gloryland by Daryl Hall and Sounds of Blackness – USA ’94

This song embodies the passion and personality of an American song appropriate for one of the largest world cup tournaments in history—the first and only one ever held on American soil. Daryl Hall and Sounds of Blackness made sure that Gloryland achieved its mission even though it wasn’t very uplifting and joyful.

4. Shakira and Freshlyground, Waka Waka – 2010 South Africa

Despite the lyrics of Shakira’s hit song Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) failing to make the song about the vast continent of Africa, it nevertheless managed to capture the mood that everyone wants in a world cup song. The song does draw listeners in its own special way, even though it kind of lacks the groove expected of a World Cup jam.

5. Live It Up by Nicky Jam featuring Will Smith and Era Istrefi – Russia 2018

This song has it all, from Nicky’s gorgeous fusion of English and Latino rap to Will Smith’s appearance on the tune to Era’s lovely Rihanna vibe. It’s difficult to listen to the first 30 seconds of the ham without bopping around. The difference-maker is the joyful atmosphere. Although the song isn’t as well-known as most World Cup anthems, it nonetheless fulfilled its intended function.

6. Giorgio Moroder’s Un’estate Italiana (To Be Number One) – Italy ’90

One would have genuinely anticipated more from the track given the renowned background of the man who created it. The song isn’t especially good or painfully boring, but it could have been. Giorgio was undoubtedly chosen for this assignment due to his musical background, and although feeling as though he had lost his touch when producing a successful official song for the second time that his nation was hosting the World Cup, the song nonetheless received a resoundingly positive response.

7. Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, and Claudia Leitte: We Are One (Ole Ola) – Brazil 2014

We Are One, a 2014 World Cup anthem, is the last song on this list but is certainly not the least. Pitbull adds his typical vigour to the song to enhance JLo and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte’s vocals.
