Generald Wilson sings the national anthem at Kansas City Chiefs vs Cincinnati Bengals AFC title game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Wilson is a retired Navy Petty officer first class, as described by the announcer before the start of the NFL game.

Wilson is not singing the national anthem for the first time. In September, when the Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers, he kicked off the team’s home debut. In an interview with the Kansas-based news outlet KSHB, Wilson said that he into signing for sports teams for the last 20 years. In spite of his long stay in the profession, he told the outlet that he still gets the chills.

“For that minute and a half, you’re putting away your differences and you’re singing a song together with the person sitting next to you; the person way across the field or the court,” Wilson told the media outlet in an interview after it was announced that he will be singing the national anthem ahead of the AFC Championship game on Sunday.

“And that minute and a half, you’re coming together because you love this country. And then the excitement is to sing a song that’s close to the original as possible, but still gives you that flavor!” he added.

Earlier, in the NFC Championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles, Anita Baker sand the national anthem at Lincoln Financial Field.

That game ended with the Eagles winning by 31-7. Injury to 49ers rookie star quarterback Brock Purdy proved costly, as did the injury to their fourth-string quarterback Josh Johnson who came to replace him. Purdy came on to push his team through in the fourth quarter, but his elbow prevented him from producing the level of accuracy that fans have since he became the 49ers’ starter in December 2022.
