George
Kittle is a tight end who plays for the San Francisco 49ers in the National
Football League (NFL). The 27-year-old is one of the biggest stars of the game
and is one of the highest-paid tight ends in the league. He is one coming off
the back of an injury-hit season, but if fit, will give Travis Kelce a run for
his money as the best tight end in the league.

Player Bio:

Kittle was born
on October 9, 1993 in Madison Wisconsin but moved to Iowa at a young age. He
attended the Iowa City West High School among others and committed to play college
football at the University of Iowa, following in the footsteps of his father George
Kittle, who also played and coached there.

However, he
found it difficult to break into a team already full of tight ends until the
2015 season, from when he started to have a greater influence on the team. Overall,
he had 48 receptions for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns in his college career. He
entered the 2017 NFL Draft as one of the top tight end prospects and was
projected to be a third or fourth round pick at the end of the pre-draft
process.

Career records and highlights:

Kittle was
selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (146th
overall pick). He signed a $2.69 million-contract including a signing-on bonus just
shy of $300,000 in May 2017.

He made his
debut against the Carolina Panthers and caught five passes for 27 yards in a
23-3 loss. He finished his rookie season with 43 receptions for 515 yards and two
touchdowns in 15 games. The following season was statistically Kittle’s best.
He set a franchise record for receptions yards in a single game with 210, became
the first 49ers tight end to surpass 1,000 receiving yards and broke Kelce’s
single-season record for receiving yards with 1,377 – which was again broken by
Kelce in 2020.

He helped
the 49ers reach the Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019,
where he caught four passes for 36 yards in a 31-20 loss. He signed a five-year
$75 million contract with an $18 million signing bonus in 2020, making him the
highest-paid tight end in the league.
