Gujarat Titans beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets. In the clash between two IPL teams battling for the top spot, GT captain Hardik Pandya beat the odds at Wankhede, where teams choosing to bat first have a greater possibility of winning.

After a slow start to the game, with Mohammed Shami picking up important wickets, the pitch opened up. SRH had a couple of good spells, thanks to Abhishek Sharma managing 65 off 42, and Aiden Markam smashing 56 off 40. However, it was ‘Shashank redemption’ as Singh came onto the pitch to get 25 off six balls in the last over of the match and helped SRH reach 195.

When it was GT’s turn to bat, Wriddhiman Saha gave the team a boost, scoring 68 off 38 deliveries. A fiery Umran Malik took his wicket with an effortless yorker at 153 kmph and SRH bowling coach Dale Steyn’s reaction said it all.

When asked about his bowling inspiration, Malik noted that he just tried bowling as fast as he could.

GT decided to battle fire with ice with a composed Rahul Tewatia managing 40 off 21. Finally, it was former SRH man Rashid Khan who took GT home with 31 off 11 balls, with a magnificent strike rate. He also managed four sixes, getting Gujarat 25 runs in the last over too.

In a tight match, which ended on a fiery note the Afghan pro found some salvation with a six in the last delivery. Khan had made some expensive errors in fielding and had taken a plummeting while he was bowling.

Speaking after the match, he admitted it was a special feeling to have scored against his former team. He continued that he was confident and glad to have opportunities to bat for GT.

Gujarat Titans next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 30, while Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Chennai Super Kings on May 1.
