On the television show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Flavortown came to life.

There are certain laws for flavortown. They are:

1. Be willing to learn from your mistakes.

“If you’re making mistakes while cooking, you’re not playing outside your safety zone,” writes Guy.

2. Savour each step.

He suggests, “Always nibble away at the ingredients while you’re making your dish.”

3. Understand your diners.

As Guy puts it, “don’t think you can get away with Fettucine Alfredo when cooking for a big crew of hungry dudes.”

4. Adding more bacon is always a smart move.

“When cooking bacon, divide it into three portions for each person, then multiply it by three,” he advises.

5. Exercise restraint.

You don’t have to consume the entire cheeseburger; just a (large) piece, he advises.

6. Always use a command when you sauce.

Never use lighter fluid, per rule 7.
