Harry Maguire played most of England’s matches in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, but his chances of being in the Manchester United starting lineup does not seem to improve. He has now been benched for the Nottingham Forest match while Luke Shaw has taken World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez’s position as the centre back.

United fans had a gala time trolling Maguire on social media. Some are hailing Erik ten Hag for his choice to not field Maguire in the starting lineup. Check out some of the reactions right here:

However, Maguire’s exclusion did not stop Manchester United from putting up a stunning performance in the first half, thanks to the exploits of local boy Marcus Rashford. The England international scored a stunner from a corner kick by Christian Eriksen, and went on to assist United’s second goal, which was netted in by Anthony Martial.

Lisandro Martinez has been given a few days off by Ten Hag as he celebrates his World Cup victory back home in Argentina. His partner in United’s defence, Raphael Varane, has however returned to the squad after losing the final to Martinez’s Argentina.

United are currently fifth on the Premier League table, and if they win this match, they will be just one point behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.

Arsenal are currently leading the league table with 40 points, which is seven more than second-placed Newcastle. The last time the Gunners managed to win the Premier League was in the 2003-24 season, in which they remained unbeaten in the competition throughout the season.
