NFL pundit Ian Rapport confirmed that Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed on a 5-year deal, which makes the star quarterback the highest-paid player.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports NFL, Jackson’s agreement is for $260 million over five years with $185 million guaranteed. Jackson now has the highest average yearly salary in the league at $52 million.

Jackson now has the highest salary in the NFL, surpassing Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who recently signed a five-year, $255 million agreement. Deshaun Watson’s contract with the Browns, which includes $230 million in guaranteed money, has the highest guaranteed sum.

Jackson, who acts as his own agent, and the organization had been negotiating a contract for some time, with Jackson reportedly seeking a fully guaranteed deal to replace the five-year $230 million contract quarterback Deshaun Watson signed last year.

“You know, for the last few months, there’s been a lot of ‘he say, she say.’ A lot of nail-biting, a lot of head-scratching going on. But for the next five years, it’s a lot of flock going on! Let’s go, baby. Let’s go, man,” Jackson said in a video shared on the Ravens’ Twitter account.

Jackson, the last first-round pick in 2018, tossed a career-high 36 touchdown passes the following year, earning him the unanimous league MVP award. He set a quarterback record in 2019 with 1,206 rushing yards, and he is the only player to ever surpass 1000 yards twice.

Aside from the injuries that have interrupted his previous two seasons, Lamar Jackson has received the most scrutiny for his postseason play. With him as the starter, the Ravens are 1-3 in the playoffs, and his quarterback rating is a dismal 68.3. They were the top-seeded team in 2019, and the wild-card Tennessee Titans surprisingly defeated them at home.

Following the announcement of Jackson’s new contract, there were several popular comments in the NFL community. “Apparently, Lamar didn’t need an agent to become the highest-paid player in the NFL. No 3% cut ($7.8 million)!” said 247 Sports’ Brandon Marcello.

“Great news for Lamar! Let’s see the guarantee structure,” said Brett Kollman.
