LeBron James was back with his headband look as the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. The 38-year-old, during his side’s 133-130 loss, broke NBA’s all-time scoring record.
James, in his young days, sported a headband for games. However, it became rare and rare as the seasons passed. On the day he was touted to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the all-time scoring record, the LA Lakers star sported the band again. Several NBA players and social media users reacted.
“LeBron is going Young LeBron headband tonight. Inspired. Love it,” a Twitter user said.
“LeBron James is bringing back the headband tonight vs. OKC. 👀” another one added.
Jason Tatum and Jordan Clarkson, after looking at LeBron sporting the headband, predicted that he was going to get the 36 points needed to create a new record in his 1410th career game.
“Oh s**t Bron got the headband on lol it’s up tonight,” Tatum wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Clarkson noted, “headband out, he going crazy” along with a King’s crown emoji.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell didn’t comment on the headband but shared his gut feel that Tuesday night is going to be the night where a new scoring king will be crowned.

With 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter, LeBron lived up to the promise. He surpassed Abdul-Jabbar and the game was halted. The 38-year-old hugged his mother, wife and children on courtside as the Crypto.com Arena cheered for him. A video of various celebrities – Rihanna, Stephen Curry, Snoop Dogg, and Drake – paying their tribute was played.
“I would never ever in a million years dreamt this even better than what it is tonight,” James said. “I just want to say thank you to the Laker faithful. You guys are one of a kind. To be able to be in the presence of such a legend as great as Kareem, it’s very humbling.”
