Rishabh Pant urged batters Rovman Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to leave the field during the IPL 2022 match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals owing to a no-ball. Captain Rishabh Pant spoke about his actions at the post-match presentation.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 15 runs in the 34th match of the IPL 2022, which was contested in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Friday.

The incident that triggered the debate happened during the Capitals’ third delivery, a full-toss from Obed McCoy that Rovman Powell pulled for a six. The Capitals had started the over with 36 runs needed to win.

Powell’s three straight sixes had trimmed the mark in half. Following the third six, though, both Powell and his batting partner Kuldeep Yadav questioned the on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Nikhil Patwardhan over whether it was a no-ball.

Pant expressed his disappointment on the on-field umpire for not declaring the third ball of the 20th over as a no-ball at the post-match presentation. The DC captain stated, “I think they were bowling well throughout the game but in the end, Powell gave us a chance, I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us but it is not in my control. Yes, disappointed but can’t do much about it. Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone on the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball.”

He continued, “Obviously it wasn’t right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right, it happened in the heat of the moment. It was the fault of both sides and it is disappointing as we have seen some good umpiring in the tournament. It is disappointing to go so close especially when the other team has scored 200+. I think we could have bowled much better. I can tell the guys to keep their chin up and prepare for the next one.”
