Roger Binny, the highest wicket-taker in India’s World Cup-winning 1983 campaign, was elected unopposed as the 36th President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the AGM on Tuesday in Mumbai. Binny took over from former India captain Sourav Ganguly, whose three-year tenure as board chairman came to an end. Ganguly will now run for President of the Cricket Association of Bengal.
The announcement comes as the BCCI held its 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai. According to ANI, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, President Sourav Ganguly, Vice-President Rajiv Shukla (also the former Indian Premier League Chairman), Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal, and Binny were all present.
Earlier, Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee waded into Sourav Ganguly-BCCI issue, alleging that Ganguly was “illegally” axed from the BCCI position, and requested the PM to allow Ganguly to contest for the ICC polls.
