As week 18 of the National Football League was underway on Sunday night, the Chicago Bears were unlikely contenders to get the chance to pick the number 1 spot in the 2023 NFL draft.
For that to happen, they needed to lose to the Minnesota Vikings and also hope that the Houston Texans defeat the Indianapolis Colts at the Lucas Oil Stadium- the home ground of the Colts.

After a nerve-wracking contest at the Lucas Stadium that could have gone either way, the Bears got exactly what they wanted.
The Texans scored a touchdown and converted two points to take the lead against the Indianapolis Colts. The game hung in a fine balance for the most part, but the Texans emerged victorious by posting a single-point lead to take the match home 32-32.
David Mills and co perhaps did not even imagine such a contest and result were possible, but the NFL never fails to surprise, as we have witnessed several times before.
Houston could have given a shot at the number one pick in the 2023 NFL draft with a loss, but as it turned out, the Chicago Bears will now have the opportunity to get the number 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, all thanks to the Texans.
In the NFL Draft, the Bears haven’t had the top pick in more than 70 years. The last time the team held the #1 pick in the draft was in 1947, when they chose Bob Fenimore, who only participated in one NFL season.
Although they have the first-choice draft now, they might not take it eventually. Chicago doesn’t have a need at quarterback, but most draught boards rank Alabama quarterback Bryce Young as the best prospect overall.
Fields appears to have the makings of a franchise player after displaying explosive playmaking skills in his second season.
