Glory Glory Man United … ??… Old Trafford will be buzzing in full voice when Cristiano Ronaldo walks out on the pitch again after several years, having sealed a sensational transfer deal with the Red Devils.

While the news sent the football world in a frenzy, speculations around key roles played by former teammates and Sir Alex Ferguson started to take shape among the media.

Ronaldo’s ex-Manchester United teammates Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand confirmed having spoken to the player in the lead up to finalising the transfer that would make Old Trafford the hottest ticket in Europe.

Ferdinand had been hinting at his involvement in convincing Ronaldo to not pick United’s fierce rivals Manchester City on Twitter hours before the deal was finalised.

The former Manchester United centre-back said he didn’t want to see Ronaldo don a Manchester City shirt and also shared how Sir Alex Ferguson would have felt if Ronaldo made the move to the Etihad.

“He would have hated to see Cristiano in a Man City shirt.”

“Just like any other person that’s been connected for a long period time at this football club,” Ferdinand said of his former manager at Manchester United.

There have been reports in the media of Sir Alex Ferguson convincing the Portuguese star to return to Old Trafford, causing a dramatic U-turn that saw Ronaldo transfer saga escalate.

Ronaldo spent six successful years at Old Trafford under Ferguson, where he won four Premier League title and became a European Champion for the first time.

Meanwhile, Portuguese international and Machester United player Bruno Fernandes cheekily claimed credit for Ronaldo’s return to the club.

In 2009, Ronaldo made a move to Real Madrid where he tasted the most success, winning a further four Champions League titles and as many Ballon d’Or medals.

After a successful term with Madrid, the renowned number seven made a move to Italian giants, Juventus, before signing a welcome back home deal with Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
