Kyrie Irving’s deal with the Brooklyn Nets is reportedly at an impasse and the basketball star put out a cryptic tweet, hours after. If the 30-year-old’s contract negotiations don’t reach a solution, he could test free agency this summer.

Irving tweeted a picture from the acclaimed television series ‘The Wire’, which was created by David Simon, and explores the crime, law enforcement, and the drug epidemic in Baltimore, Maryland.

As per The Athletic’s reports on Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are both interested in getting Irving on board, but the pro will have to opt into his contract, considering that’s the only condition under which the trade can occur since both the teams have constraints in salary caps.

However, the character in Irving’s tweet is Brother Mazoune, who’s basically an enforcer from New York. Perhaps, Irving wishes to remain in New York, where he has a couple of options as well.

Fox News reported that the Knicks have their eyes on Irving as well, but the pro has expressed an interest to stay on with the Nets, in Brooklyn, one of New York’s five boroughs.

Despite Irving’s wish to remain, Brooklyn’s general manager Sean Marks remained noncommittal about the star’s future with the NBA side.

“So he has to look at what he’s going to do with his player option and so forth like that”, said the former basketball player, adding, “I think we know what we’re looking for. We’re looking for guys that want to come in here and be part of something bigger than themselves. Play selfless, play team basketball, and be available … and that goes not only for Kyrie but for everybody here.”

Irving and Kevin Durant both signed on for the Nets before the start of the 2019-2020 season, but they have had their share of injuries. The Brooklyn Nets have not gone beyond the Eastern Conference semifinals in the playoffs.
