20 years ago on this date, almost everyone across the United States and the world was shaken when 4 planes, carrying hundreds crashed into buildings in the country, further killing thousands.

On Saturday, everyone is remembering the lives that were lost that day. The sports World is not far behind.

Here is how the sports world is honouring the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

The US Navy is playing against the Airforce in a home football game on Saturday. The Navy team is playing the game in commemorative uniform of navy blue jerseys, royal blue pants, white helmets, white gloves, black cleats and red trim. This is meant to honour fallen heroes of the country.

On the ‘holy war’ day, Brigham Young University play Arch rivals University of Utah. The Cougars will be seen wearing “Never Forget” helmets to mark the 9/11 tragedy.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers played their game against the University of Buffalo in a commemorative white camouflage uniform to honour the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and their families.

This year, Boston College wore the Red Bandana uniform to mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy in a game against the UMass Minutemen. The team normally wears this jersey once a year to honour former player Welles Crowther, who died in the attacks on the twin towers.

The Florida Gators played University of South Florida wearing special commemorative helmets. The helmets had an American Flag theme for this day. Wearing those helmets proved good for the Gators as they thrashed USF 42-20.

University of Louisville is also wearing the special American flag themed helmets for their game against University of Eastern Kentucky.

Rutgers University lost 37 of their alumni in the 9/11 attacks. The team wore special helmets on the anniversary which had all the 37 names imprinted on it.
