The retired Argentine player Sergio Aguero got to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy after the country swept to victory against the French in an intense battle. The match ended in a 3-3 draw, after which a penalty shootout was ordered.

Aguero, once a striker, was given a chance to lift the trophy for the first time. The player appeared in 101 tournaments for the national team and scored 42 goals before having to retire prematurely from Football due to his heart condition. Aguero was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia after being taken to the hospital due to complaints of chest pain in Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alaves in October 2021.

Aguero is not the first player to celebrate the victory of a match he did not participate in. In fact, he was labeled as “going full Terry”, in a humorous tweet posted by none other than John Terry himself.

After Argentina emerged victorious, Terry spoke to BeIN sports, jokingly saying “Aguero has gone for the full John Terry there hasn’t he?! I did it first.”

Terry could not take part in the Champions League final in 2012 as he was sent off in the semi-final. He joined the rest of the team in the celebrations after Chelsea defeated Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old star has been at the Argentina camp throughout the FIFA tournament in Qatar, supporting his ex-teammates through the journey of this international tournament, even taking part in one of the training sessions.

Aguero and Lionel Messi have been friends for quite a long time, and they reportedly shared rooms at the Argentina camp. The two have been pals for more than a decade and have been roommates since they were in youth teams.

Aguero even lashed out at Argentine football officials when he was not allowed to visit the team camp and meet his ex- teammates before the FIFA World Cup opener, as La Albiceleste was set to play against Saudi Arabia.

“If they don’t want me to go, tell me to my face. Always fully with Argentina and with this team that represents us all. We know that they will give everything for this shirt that we love so much. And as Leo [Messi] said, we will all be walking together,” he wrote on Twitter.
